Why Smoothies?
Smoothies alone won’t provide a healthy diet because they are only half the equation. Smoothies can, however, make a good addition to your diet, especially for those that don’t consume enough fruits and vegetables to get the necessary vitamins and minerals that we need. A couple of reasons why you should consider adding smoothies to your daily intake.
Smoothies Save Time – Let’s face it, we live busy lives. Between work, family, friends and working out, how do we find time to fit it all in. Take a blender, some produce, and a little almond milk, and in less than a minute, you’ve got a creamy, nutrient-dense snack.
Loaded in Vitamins and Minerals – Despite our best efforts, most of us do not get enough fruits and vegetables, and some of us don’t even like them! Because smoothies are made from real food – fruits and vegetables – they are loaded in the vitamins and minerals we need to fuel our workouts.
Fun Way to Get Your Kids to Eat Their Veggies – Smoothies can be more fun to eat and make – especially for kids! You might not be able to get your kids to eat a salad but mix in a little greens with a lot of fruit, and they won’t even notice it.
Catalysts for Energy – If you are an athlete, smoothies provide a boost in carbohydrates and calories which make a huge difference for athletes who burn through a lot of calories or are deficient in carbs. Remember that carbs create stored glycogen which fuels all activity.
Support Immune System – Because of the powerful antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables, adding smoothies to your diet will prevent or delay cell damage in turn keeping you from getting sick. Berries have been shown to be particularly high in antioxidants.
Speeds Recovery – Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals known to reduce inflammation and decrease recovery time. These include foods high in fiber, and fruits such as apples, cherries, pineapple, raspberries and strawberries.
Absorption – Because smoothies are blended and in a liquid form, the absorption of all the good stuff literally starts in your mouth. In fact, because you are skipping the chewing and swallowing, you are most likely getting more nutrients than you would if you were sitting down to a plate of fruits and vegetables.
Add-Ins for Extra Nutrients – Need more protein in your diet for enhanced recovery but don’t have time to grill a steak? Try adding a scoop of protein powder such as our Nutritionally Green Premium Muscle Builder to get the added nutrients that you need. This whey protein will provide added amino acids to support the rebuilding of muscle and tissue following a tough training session. We hope you will check out some of our recommended add-ins throughout this recipe book.
